What Is ProPress?
ProPress is a system for connecting copper pipes. ProPress itself is a trade name used by Manufacturer Viega. There are a number of companies manufacturing the ProPress type fittings as well. ProPress fittings have O-ring inserts at the ends of the fittings that will be tightened securely to the pipe when it is pressed on by the ProPress tool.
What Is There To Like About It?
A. The number one advantage to ProPress is that there is no danger of starting a fire. So that means no soldering required.
B. A plumber can save lots of time pressing fittings as opposed to sweating them. A quick roughing of the pipe surface, sliding the fitting onto the pipe, putting the Propress in place, and then pulling the trigger, and you’re done!
C. Prepping and connecting the joint can be done in less than thirty seconds.
D. There’s the added attraction of being able to make up joints when the water hasn’t been shut down entirely for whatever reason.
ProPress Tools
Basic ProPress machines will cost upwards of one thousand dollars. The fittings are also much more expensive than comparable sweat fittings. However, this system can probably be written into the jobs and the cost is offset by the time saved for the plumber.
